hey larry, i’m a huge fan of your posts on here, the quote you used in one of your videos you said something about training a horse is 90% horsemanship and 10% horse really hits home to me i feel like the trainer/rider needs to educate them self to the max before making the horse doing what you want them to do.. thank you again for all the help you have gave myself and many many more via youtube. please keep up the great work -harlon

@ltrocha Do you have any tips on how to get a horse to break a habbit of bucking and rearing? I bought an ex-racehorse and he does real well till he gets excited or startled, whether your riding or leading him he rears and bucks when surprised or excited.

@MonMo18 Yes, there are horses that have trouble spinning etc.
Most horses that are bred for cutting or reining usually are good athletes and perform the best.

Are there horses …
Are there horses that flat out cannot accomplish such a fast turn due to their body structure?

Larry, I have a young mare that reminds me alot of the horse your riding in this video. Good bred, but just tough. She rides around nice, but she not honest. I’ve drug some calves on her on the ranch, but I really don’t know how I got it done. Shes real ouchy about ropes. I appreciate that you’ll show us some horses that aren’t quite finished. Great videos, simple ways to get your message across. You’ve given me some tools to put in my toolbox. Thanks

O.k!!! Larry, …
O.k!!! Larry, seeing you work this resistant & reactive mare made me realize that I haven’t been asking enough of my horse. Like this mare, she’s resistant, and she’s also a tad lazy. She’s a new horse so we’re still in the “honeymoon” phase. But I’ve been releasing the pressure on her WA-A-AY too soon & thus rewarding a so-so response instead of what she’s capable of giving me. NO more!!!

Thx,
Lin M.

One of your better …
One of your better videos. I like how you have shown a horse with some issues and worked through them. I think this is typical of some of these Dual bred horses. But, also what makes them great. Once they start to work with you instead of against… WOW. What would you do to get a horse that canters around the spin from prior habit, to stop cantering and trot the spin in front? I am slowing down and pushing out to keep impulsion anything more? Thanks. I hope I can meet you someday.

It made me feel good to see you describe a mare that is like mine. Although she is an Arab, bred for cutting and reining.n My mare is a little lazy on top of it, doesn’t really like to work that hard, but of course, can be explosive at times. We have come a long way… I have had a heck of a time getting her to come onto the bridle, and just ordered your German martingale and video., How about doing one of your videos on evasions? spins require forward and softness!! Thanks a ton!!

larry,
you are an amazing guy. It is absolutely amazing how she doesnt know how to spin and she did a pretty decent one. For me, i have trouble yeaching my horse to neck rein and moving the shoulder. With neck reining, its like it has no effect on him, even if i put the rein on his neck it seems like he cant feel it, should i be pressing harder with it? Moving the shoulder, ive done the ground work but i dont know what is a good shoulder move.

I would like to be able to do this with my mare but I don’t know how to even get started. She doesn’t neck rain vary well, but I’m working on it. I’ve had her since she was born and is the first horse I have ever trained myself. she is 5 years old and watching this horse that only has one year of training under its belt makes me realize how under trained my horse is. Any suggestions on how to get her to respond to a lighter touch?

Glad you liked the video doc.
Yes, I try to use horses that make mistakes in my training videos.

I think the viewer can learn more if he sees what to do when things aren’t perfect.

this is an excellent descriptive video with easily understandable instructions and comments. I also appreciate that you show one that has ‘issues’ with her training and how you work through it. Thank you!

Hey Larry,

I first of all have to say that I own all your videos and can say that they are the best out there. You use horses that are not fully trained and we get to see you correct them. I have a question about lead changes. I hear that you’re supposed to keep their shoulders to teh left and move the hind end to the right. I’m having a lot of trouble doing this. My horse just gets confused and gets mad. Any suggestions?

Thanks Larry, I am …
Thanks Larry, I am comming back to riding after 12 years. My was into reining (showing and training, his own horses) for 20 years untill a car accident 8 years ago. He still has all his horses and untill 3 years ago, he still bred and raised well bred horses but was not able to show. I Bought his 11 year old CEE BEE Command Stud 2 months ago and despite not beeing worked with for 7 years, except for breeding, is doing pretty well. Has a great disposition. Have a few quirks to work out.
Thnx
