Tiki and I riding Equipment Free

After watching Stacy Westfall I decided I wanted to try to at least ride my horse in circles without use of equipment. So, I took one day after riding down trail 5-10 minutes of cantering with a very loose rein then this week thought I’d try with the halter and only one lead, from there I felt comfortable enough to take of the halter and continue the “natural” way. Can’t believe he let me do it so quickly and with so little effort.. I’m so proud of my boy. He’s no show horse, but he’s my pride and joy.

Thanks… That was actually the 1st time trying.. I WAS going to start with a loose rein, then go to a halter, then one lead, then the rope around the neck… but….. I got daring that day and said, “Why not, I think he’s tired enough to behave”.. Luckily he was.. LOL.. I’ve doe it quite a few time since, maybe about 10-20 and only got thrown off the once (Someone opened the arena door and spooked him) he bolted, bucked and I went off.. lol.. That was on the 3rd or 4th time.

haha me and my little Arab do that a lot. First time I grabbed my helmet cuz I thought I was going to end up in a tree somewhere. But horses respond really well to the person that they love & trust. :) Great job. The canter was B E A U T I F U L ! ! ! & Tiki is very pretty. :)

aww.. Thanks. I really am proud of him and now that I’m back at the same barn again I would like to try it some more with him but will have to work up to it again.. (he’s been bratty lately) lol.
Good luck with the one you are working with, I’m sure you’ll have fun no matter what the outcome is. Just building a bond with a horse is such a great feeling. The best really. :-)

Don’t sell yourself short, you and Tiki did AMAZING!!! I wanna try this!! I don’t have my own horse anymore=[ But I have a friend who's letting me work his horses. I don't know them well enough yet to try this, lol. Might be a fun summer project though!

Trust me.. if I could do this with this horse, you’ll get there with who ever you ride.. Once the bond is formed, you’ll just know when it’ll work.. :-) Best of luck.

Thanks… I was quite impressed with him myself.. But as you can see I only went the one direction…. I know if I were to try the other way he would of sped up and most likely bucked me off… I was just reading him to know what I could and couldn’t do…. Luckily I read him right!! lol

I go without …
I go without lunging mine too.. Never really did lunge him once he turned 4… Just rather get on and go.. lol.. He’s also the boss in his heard and now most of the time a sweat heart to ride.. Just has the “moments” but I love him..

yea, well she is …
yea, well she is one that you can just hop on without lunging. She is 6 now, but she is the lead of our herd. She isn’t even tempered with them at all(biting, pinning her ears), but when you are on her back, she is as sweet as can be….normally :) my mom has a natural iron horse and he is the opposite. around the pasture, he is friendly, but he is a bomb waiting to go off when you are on his back.

Even tempered?? An Impressive? I’m shocked.. lol.. Mine isn’t even tempered, he’s more like multiple personality tempered… lol One day good (Like here of course) other day bad.. But mostly good now. He was really bad up until a few yrs ago. Now he’s 13 and not so unpredictable as before! Yours must be one of the few Impressive’s that are even tempered!! (From what I’ve heard anyway) :-)

awe thats cool… I’m almost to that point on my ‘impressive’ mare, I love her. She is so even tempered, just like your’s seems to be. I show western and english pleasure mainly, but I love trails and reining too.

yep, that’s my pony …
yep, that’s my pony too!! She’ll jog low and slow with no bridle, put one on, and no way! it’s so silly. but, I am looking forward to doing some bridleless classes with her this coming show season. my trainer helps put on a fun show, lots of natural horsemanship. it’s fun :)

Thanks.. Ironically he seems more relaxed like this too then with a bridle.. When I ride with a bridle and happen to loosen the reins, he speeds right up.. lol… Go figure… I guess they just know… “Let’s not mess this up or she’ll stick the bit in my mouth again” lol
