I guess a rider has …
I guess a rider has to be careful not to get distracted by the beauty of the shanks of the bit or the sides of the snaffle and remember to think first and foremost about what they want/ need to get the job accomplished… and THEN find the prettiest one : )

yes, sometimes the …
yes, sometimes the common name of a bit changes over time, and sometime regionally ( in England and in the US we may use one term or another for the same bit ).In just the same way some people may say you “post” to the trot while others say you “rise ” to the trot ( and both would be correct) one may be more favorable in a certain time/ era than another. the word “posting” for example was hardly used at all in the 1970s – 1990s and now it seems to be used again : )

there’ nothing …
there’ nothing called a “rudder” that any bit has… what I think you have instead is what is called a “key” ( which might look like a little rudder ) a key is sometimes found on a snaffle bit and it hangs down encouraging the horse to relax… it shouldn’t cause any problems ( it’s of a similar nature to a cricket in a western bit) it doesn’t do anything to the action of the bit, it makes it neither stronger nor softer…. it just encourages the horse to relax

I use a 01 5″ Myler bit. I got it with my horse because the old owner said that she is picky with bits and she also gave me her bridle.

I don’t believe so. …
I don’t believe so..this small collection of bits has accumulated gradually (some belong to the school I teach at, and some are my own). if ever I see a bit that’s for sale at an excellent price (at a tack / tag sale, clubs around here seem to have this kind of sale once a year) I would pick up a bit if it was a good buy. so,I can’t say for certain if one of them may be..some are VERY nice..others just average..a couple are ancient :)! ( also there were more duplicates I didn’t show :)
