Do you know any general horse info?

Posted by: admin | Comments (3)

I’m new to horses but would like to know more about them. If you know anything at all about them, tell me! Some things I ‘m interested in:

Prices (of horses, supplies, and stable renting)
Training
Breeds
Daily, monthly, yearly chores
Health, diseases, and medication
Equipment (I’m interested in riding English, so what would I need?) Also any brands you recommend
Signs of a healthy horse
Signs of a good stable
Diet
Which gender is better and why

Dressage and show isn’t really important to me, I’d just like to know about general horse care.

Well, if I missed anything, be sure to tell me of it. You don’t need to answer ALL of that, but if you want to, fire away. I would never want to get a horse not knowing what it needs. Thanks you so, so much.

How much are Horse Riding Lessons?

Posted by: admin | Comments (5)

I would really like to learn to ride and there are no websites for the riding schools in my area (East London). What are the average prices for a one hour lesson? Or am i better off buying myself a horse and learning that way?

You are better off taking lessons at a British Horse Society approved school first to find out if you even like riding and to also learn what it takes to ride and keep a horse. Here is a complete list of approved schools in London

I would like a turquoise halter and some matching accessories (saddle pad, boots, etc.) but it’s a difficult color to find. where can i find these things?
i’m looking for a nylon halter and english tack accessories. thanks!

Hamilton makes the best nylon halters!

http://www.doversaddlery.com

http://www.smartpakequine.com

http://www.sstack.com

http://www.statelinetack.com

http://www.ebay.com

http://www.countrysupply.com

http://www.tacktrader.com

I think you can handle it from there, just navigate, most halters are under the tack sections. there are lots more sites to chose from but these are the main ones that I use.

I LOVE the color teal, I have a teal halter that I got from the local tack shop.

I hope you find the perfect halter. Good luck. Hope I helped :)

I’m about to finish "Storey’s Guide to Training Horses" by Heather Smith Thomas.

It was okay, but there are some holes in the information. And she is extremely repetitive in common sense advice. Is there anything you can recommend? I want a book by an author that KNOWS how a horse thinks and reacts. And, I don’t want a book that is primarily on training in different styles of riding. I’ll be starting my horse myself in all areas of training.
Thanks! *DVD recommendations welcome, too!*

Richard Shrake has a line of resistance free training and riding books that are awesome!! I really enjoyed them and learned a lot. He really helps you bond with your horse witch is a crucial step to training well I think!
